Watch Spotting: The 2021 Oscars

The 93rd Academy Awards aired live last night from Los Angeles' Union Station, with Nomadland taking home the top prize for best picture. As you'd expect, we were glued to our television screens throughout the event, trying to make out who was wearing which watches. A toned-down affair with far fewer attendees than usual due to COVID, the 93rd was not lacking for wrist candy. Here's what we saw. If you spotted anything else, share it down in the comments. Daniel Kaluuya, Cartier Santos de Cartier Skeleton Getty Images Daniel Kaluuya took home the Academy Award for actor in a supporting role for his portrayal of Illinois Black Panther Party Chairman Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah. On his wrist for the Oscars, the 32 year old Kaluuya, who attended with his mother and sister, had the Santos de Cartier Skeleton . A modern skeleton that uses its movement architecture to depict Roman numerals, this manually wound Santos is a classic choice, but with a little something extra to it. This is Kaluuya's first Oscar win and his second nomination. Last time he was up for an Oscar he wore an IWC. Riz Ahmed, Girard Perregaux Laureto Skeleton Credit ABC/Getty Images. Another category, another skeleton watch. Best Actor nominee Riz Ahmed delivered a strong and well-regarded performance in The Sound of Metal , a film about a drummer who loses his hearing. Ahmed chose a Girard Perregaux Laureto Skeleton to pair with his all-black-everything look. This GP is fun take on the octagonal- bezel, integrated-bracelet sports watch ideal and feels very fitting for the Academy Awards. Charles D. King, Piaget Polo Getty Images. Charles D. King, producer of  Judas and the Black Messiah, wore a cushion-shaped Piaget that to our eyes looked like the Polo Emparador Skeleton Tourbillon. Ultra-thin watchmaking tends to come to mind when most folks think of Piaget, but the company's longstanding expertise in jewelry and gem-setting are also on display in this piece, a skeletonized automatic tourbillon with its micro rotor visible from the dial side. It's a a watch with a real wow factor and one that's particularly well suited to the red carpet. Leslie Odom Jr., Omega Constellation Leslie Odom Jr. is best known for his star-making turn as Aaron Burr in the Broadway hit musical Hamilton . He can now add Oscar nominee to his growing list of accolades. During last night’s unconventional format, Odom Jr. performed his Best Original Song nominated “Speak Now” – from One Night in Miami – during the red carpet show, and followed that up by wearing a yellow gold Omega Constellation Gents 41mm with a pretty fantastic (and just as gold) double-breasted suit. His was the black dial variant on a black leather strap. The watch features the recognizable Roman numeral bezel as well as Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8901.Cartier, GP, Piaget, and Omega all showed up on the red carpet.
