Watch Spotting: Eddie Murphy Wearing A Rolex Day-Date In Yellow Gold (1987)
In 1987, Eddie Murphy was at the top of his game. He'd wrapped his career on Saturday Night Live (1980 to '84), became a stand-up megastar with Delirious (1983), made Trading Places (’83) and Beverly Hills Cop (’84), and in '87 would release both Raw and Beverly Hills Cop II .

So no wonder the guy got an invite to write his name outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre (also known as TCL Chinese Theatre, formerly Mann's Chinese Theatre) in Hollywood. And what better watch to wear for such an honor than a yellow-gold Rolex Day-Date?
While I don't know the exact reference, I do know that I've seen him wearing a few Day-Dates (plus many other watches) throughout the years. But in my opinion, this one is by far the best. And no, it doesn't tell the time in Gstaad.
If you want to tell us who else's 1980s watch you’d like us to spot, you can leave your nominee in the comments.A week's worth of retro watch spotting begins with the '80s comedy king and a watch fit for a president.
