Letter From The Editor: Our New Community Terms of Service

The last time we wrote to you to define our Terms of Service was in 2016 . Much has changed in the five years since then, and yet our growing community remains as passionate as ever. As HODINKEE expands, we want to make sure our comments section remains a welcoming and inclusive space. Some of us have decades under our belts as collectors and watch enthusiasts, while others are just learning the difference between mechanical and quartz. Some of us have a two-watch collection, others a twenty-watch collection. Some readers approach the hobby as investors and collectors. Others are laser-focused on watchmaking craft. Still others view it all through the lenses of fashion and culture. There is room for everyone in our vision of HODINKEE. But we can’t uphold this vision alone, and we need your help keeping the comments section a space for constructive conversation and, yes, criticism. We're committed to transparency about the watches we cover and sell, and we've posted Frequently Asked Questions on a separate page. We've also expanded our community moderation team. Please remember the following guidelines as you participate in discussion: · Keep your comment on-topic · Remember that our community is international, and thrives on inclusivity · Comments are auto-moderated; occasionally a comment will be flagged for manual moderation and there may be a delay before it's published The following are grounds for deletion of a comment: 1. Suggestive or sexually abusive content 2. Personal attacks 3. Excessive profanity or vulgarity 4. Racist, sexist, and homophobic remarks; hate speech or offensive generalizations about a group based on race, sex, ethnicity and/or beliefs 5. Using HODINKEE Community resources to sell watches or other items, or to promote goods and services 5. Spam, repeatedly leaving a similar comment, or creating multiple accounts to leave a similar comment 6. Attacks on HODINKEE staff, employees, and contributors 7. Links to outside content. (It’s okay to quote from them, but we can't vouch for the content on any website except our own.) Repeated and/or egregious violations may result in your account being banned. We really don't want to do that. So keep it classy out there. And thanks, as always, for being with us. Hero illustration by Louisa CannellWe're here for a good time, and for a long time.
