Introducing: The Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph 5990/1R-001

Quick Take Hey. Yeah, you. Have you ever had the nagging feeling that your 5990 wasn't appropriately resplendent? Well, Patek Philippe has heard your cries. The brand has just announced the latest evolution of its exceedingly desirable travel time chronograph, a 5990 in rose gold. Fitted with a gorgeous blue sunburst dial, the 5990/1R-001 takes everything we loved about the stainless steel original but renders the whole affair rosy, including the fully integrated bracelet. Initial Thoughts Joining the existing Nautilus collection (along with the very fresh green 5711 ), the 5990/1R loses none of the functionality that helped to establish the 5990 as a class leader when the original steel version came out in 2014. Don't let that easy-wearing charm of the Nautilus fool you, as the 5990/1R rocks Patek's CH 28-520 C FUS movement. Automatically wound and just 6.95mm thick, the CH 28-520 C FUS boasts a 60-minute chronograph, push-button travel time (see the pushers built into the case flank below, one to advance the travel function, the other to retract), a date display at twelve, and the model's signature two-zone AM/PM indication. As good as the view of that movement may be through the case back, this new 5990/1R is a looker from any angle with a warm blue sunburst dial replete with gold accents, applied luminous markers, and a collection of rose gold hands that offer excellent legibility alongside the Nautilus look and feel that drives so many collectors crazy. Despite this Nautilus representing one of the more precious of the form, the 5990/1r still offers 120 meters of water resistance, sapphire front and back, and a sporty rose gold bracelet with a fold-over clasp. Sizing remains unchanged from the steel 5990, with the 5590/1R's case measuring 40.5mm wide and 12.53mm thick. Really though, what more is there to say? This is one of the coolest, sportiest, and most complicated models from Patek Philippe's lineup now offered in rose gold. If you zoom out just a bit, it's also an expansion of a model range that has, of late, been exceedingly hard to buy and this new model is likely the result of mounting demand from Patek collectors. Seeing as Patek Philippe didn't at all mess with any of the 5990's signature bonafide, I can't imagine this is the sort of watch you're going to see collecting dust in a boutique showcase, even with its $106,452 price tag.
