Introducing: The NOMOS Tangente Update (Live Pics & Pricing)

The Tangente Neomatik 41 Update launched in 2018 and brought a new caliber into the NOMOS family of movements: the in-house caliber 6101 . The main draw of this movement was – and continues to be – the special date complication, allowing both forward and backward functionality. Following this week's announcement of the new Metro Neomatik 41 Update , the brand is also announcing a further iteration of the Tangente, now called simply the Tangente Update, with a new Midnight Blue dial and still featuring the 6101 movement. What more can be said about a watch that already exists – and is merely getting a new dial variation? Well, not much, other than the fact that it looks quite cool in the Midnight Blue color. Depending on the light, it can range from a dark navy, to a rich, vibrant blue. One interesting piece of newness is that the inserts for the ring date are a striking neon green (that also glow in the dark). Of course, given the use of a dark dial color, the numerals are done in what appears to be a light grey while the neomatik  wordmark remains a sort of tan/brown color. Even though the brand is introducing this new dial, it will continue to produce the white silver-plated dial variant as well. The 6101 movement is 35.2mm in diameter, which has necessitated the use of a 42mm-wide case. The watch's unique date display (a string of numbers arrayed along the outer portion of the dial) is a direct product of this movement. The quick-set date functionality is utilized via the first position of the crown. One sort of odd detail on this watch is the aforementioned glowing date ring insert. It comes off as something of a novelty. Considering that no other portion of the dial is lumed, it serves little, to no, purpose in the dark. But that sort of whimsical design flourish is what makes NOMOS, well, NOMOS. And while this may just be a new dial color, it indubitably makes the watch look very good.
