Introducing: The New Patek Philippe 5711/1A-014, Now With An Olive Green Dial

Quick Take Patek Philippe has been making news with the Nautilus for several years. The biggest? That the 5711-1A-010 was going to be discontinued, as Cara Barrett reported in January of this year. Hot on the heels of that revelation, Patek Philippe has just announced that the 5711-1A-010 will be replaced by a new model, with a green dial – the 5711/1A-014, with a sunburst olive-green dial, and a version with the same dial, but with a diamond-set bezel – the ref. 5711/1300-001. Both models are in steel; both are 40mm x 8.3mm, and both are powered by the self-winding, central rotor caliber 26-330 S C J SE, with date, and with a silicon Spiromax balance spring. The 26-330 SC has been present in the Nautilus 5711 since 2019. The new version of the 5711 will retail for $34,893 in steel (for the 5711-1A-014) and $92,624 for the diamond-set 5711-1300-001. Initial Thoughts This news is minutes old as I write, but it's already spreading like wildfire across social media, confirming the fanatical attention the 5711 has garnered for itself in recent years. The new version is sowing some confusion – it is, in fact, steel, not white gold, as was suspected by some 5711 watchers – but it is, except for the new dial color, largely the 5711 the world has come to know and love. I can't think of any reason in particular why the new 5711 shouldn't be as popular as its predecessor – the olive green sunburst dial will take some getting used to, like any major cosmetic change to an existing model, but it's certainly no less complementary aesthetically than the blue dial, albeit olive green has a slightly more utilitarian vibe than blue. The diamond-set ref. 5711-1300-001 is maybe slightly more challenging. Blue is a more harmonious match with diamonds than olive green – at least it seems so to me at first glance, although there's no substitute for seeing the combination in person before making any sort of final judgement. Nonetheless, I suspect that quite a few Patek collectors and fans are going to shoot first and ask questions later – with the frenzied acquisitiveness that the 5711 has produced in recent years, the new version seems a watch whose reference number ought to have "ASAP" attached to it.
