Introducing: Moser's New Pixelated Eraser That Tells Time

Quick Take Moser has never been afraid to go so far outside of the horological box that we begin to wonder if there even is a box. Take the most recent Swiss Alp Watch , made with a fully Vantablack (that means really, really black for those keeping tabs at home) dial, that looks strikingly like a particular smartwatch we all know – with a small seconds register meant to play on that theme even more. Fast forward to today, April Fools Day, and the brand is at it again – only this watch is no joke (but it is very limited). This is the collaborative H. Moser & Cie Endeavour Centre Seconds Concept x seconde/seconde/ – and yes, the pixelation is intentional. Initial Thoughts This is Moser at its best – zagging away from the expected. In this case, it comes through a collaboration with artist seconde/seconde/ , best known for mods of iconic vintage watches (such as a Tiffany stamped Patek with a croissant for an hour hand). But this isn't a mod. Instead, it's an active push by the brand to bring things that are already happening on the periphery of the watch world into the mainstream. The product of that push is this watch, with its "funky" blue sunray fume dial, and – you bet –  pixelated eraser for the hour hand. While our eyes are no doubt fixated on the eraser (waiting for the dial to buffer), it's easy to miss something else, something that isn't even there. Along with the loud, blue, eraser-heavy dial, there's a minimalist effect at play. There is no logo (or any text for that matter), to be found. In fact, there are no hour markers, or a minute track – likely wiped away by that eraser hand. According to the brand, this watch is meant to showcase watches more as pieces of art than products – things to be collected. That had a lot to do with the decision to forgo any sort of branding as well as the bold, pixel-laden design choice. Inside this combination minimalist watch/art piece is the manufacture Moser self-winding calibre HMC 200 viewable through the exhibition caseback. This watch is very real and limited to 20 pieces. Each piece purchased will be accompanied by an exclusive numbered work by seconde/seconde/ as pictured below. The Basics Brand: H.
