HODINKEE Radio: Dispelling Vintage Watch Myths With The HODINKEE Shop

Vintage watches can be a ton of fun. My first "nice" watch purchase was a vintage Univeral Genève and the endless hours spent scouring the internet for every little bit of information I could find was a fantastic introduction to the watch world at large. But I'll admit it was a bit scary too. There's someone out there willing to support any assertion as fact and certain topics produce more questions than answers. So, when we decided to tackle the topic of misconceptions about vintage watches here on HODINKEE Radio I knew I needed to call in reinforcements.
This week's guests are Saori Omura and Brandon Frazin, two of my colleagues from the HODINKEE Shop and the people who make sure that every vintage watch we list is up to our high standards. Between the two of them, they've got well over 20 years experience evaluating and inspecting the best watches in the world, both at HODINKEE and at top auction houses. They're who I go to when I've got questions of my own, and today they're here to dispel some vintage watch myths for you on the pod.
A 33mm watch can still look incredible on the wrist today.
How small is too small for a vintage watch? Do you really need box and papers for a watch to be exceptional? Are there less expensive vintage watches that can still provide a lifetime of enjoyment? We get into all of these questions and more. Whether you're a longtime collector or a total novice, I know you're going to learn something. I know I did.
We hope you enjoy this episode of HODINKEE Radio. Please let us know in the comments below if you have any vintage-related questions of your own and we can cover them on a future show.
